Andy Farquharson, PhD, 3M Teaching Fellow (1986), Former Director UVic Learning and Teaching Centre (1984-1987; 1990-1999)
These awards are for registered graduate students who have excelled in their teaching during the preceding calendar year. Any form of teaching within the university may be included. The award is named after a past Director of the Learning & Teaching Centre at the University of Victoria.
Each department, or academic unit, is invited to select an awardee. The process is usually initiated in December by a letter from the Dean of Graduate Studies. Criteria may be defined by the department but must be publicized for a fair and equitable selection process. The nomination package should include an outline of these criteria and two brief letters of support for the chosen graduate student. These letters should include the results of any evaluative data collection as well as anecdotal commentary.
The deadline for submission to the Office of Graduate Studies is usually at the end of October and will be announced each year. There will be a small ceremony to celebrate this recognition, but each department is encouraged to showcase this individual's achievements and skills.
